Valentine’s Day is a day for celebrating love. We often focus on our significant others on this holiday, but don’t forget other loved ones too. It’s a great occasion to show your love for all family and friends. This includes the senior loved ones in your life.

For seniors, Valentine’s Day can be a lonely holiday, especially if they have lost a spouse or are with someone with dementia. By including them, you can turn an otherwise dreary day into one of inclusion and joy.

Below are several fun and easy ideas for having a Happy Valentine’s Day with your senior loved ones.

  • Enjoy a meal together. Whether you cook the meal together, go out to eat or bring a favorite dish, a meal together is a great way to spend time enjoying each other’s company.
  • Have a family game night. Play games or do a puzzle together.
  • Bake yummy treats.
  • Watch a classic romantic movie. Grab some snacks, get comfy and put on a favorite romantic movie.
  • Bring your loved one a treat. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Bring a flower or houseplant, box of candies (if their diet allows) or a stuffed animal. Homemade cards from the grandkids are always a hit.

Whatever you find yourself doing on Valentine’s day, we hope that you’re able to spend it in the company of loved ones. All of us at Seniors Home Care wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day!
