2025 | Edition 2

Dear Friends,
It’s been a busy start to the summer at SHC. In May, we held our annual SHC Employee Picnic in the spring for the first time to coincide with our 38th Anniversary. While the original event was rained out, we enjoyed a scaled back picnic at the SHC office, with Ryan barbecuing out back.
A highlight of the picnic is always celebrating our Caregiver of the Year and four Core Values awards winners. This year was no different. Read below to learn more about this year’s winners.
We also have some exciting new changes in the Scheduling Department. In addition to welcoming two new schedulers (the wonderful Tara and Kelly!) to the team, we recently introduced new phone hours for the Scheduling Department. Scheduling needs don’t stop at the end of the business day, so the Scheduling Department is now available and answering the phone from 7:00am-10:00pm Monday through Friday, and 7:00am-5:00pm Saturday and Sunday. As always, if you find that you need to leave a message, rest assured that a team member will receive your message and respond as soon as possible.
We want to extend our thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the recent tornados that devastated portions of St. Louis. The storms passed through areas that many of our caregivers call home. To help ease the burden of the disaster, we raised money in the office and reached out to clients who might be interested in helping our affected caregivers. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we were able to greatly help four caregivers during this difficult time. We are so grateful to everyone who donated, as are the caregivers who benefited from your generosity.
We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer!
Yours in Service,
Gretchen & Ryan Whittington
2025 Caregiver Awards!
Caregiver of the Year: Ryan N.
Ryan demonstrates our core values every day with some very challenging clients. She finds solutions to the new and developing needs of her clients whose disease is progressing quickly. She adapts her care to clients’ changing needs. She is reliable and steps up when one of her teammates need help. She provides stability to very fragile clients. Ryan helps others by making sure her daily tasks are completed as well as looking for ways she can make the next shift lighter if possible. Ryan is humble and compassionate. She exceeds expectations time and time again for the clients she serves. The family has told us they are very grateful to Ryan for her calming nature and patience. She has created many “Raving Fans.”
We appreciate Ryan for all she is doing for her clients in the SAGE program.
Congratulations Ryan!
Core Values Awards
Find Solutions: Latasha C.
Latasha has consistently served the same client for many years. Bringing stability to the client and her family. Over the past several months changes in the client’s home required Latasha to find new ways to handle some tough situations. Emotional and physical needs of her client required her to think outside the box to meet the needs presented. Latasha used her talents and adapted her style to help her clients. While the outcome for many of our clients is end of life, giving them support, dignity, and compassion lightens the burden of loss. Latasha has been a great blessing to her client and the family.
Be Reliable: Lawanda L.
Lawanda has been serving her client for several years as well. Similarly, she has been a constant provider of support as the client’s condition changed. She brings stability to her team of caregivers and to the situation. Her client is comforted when Lawanda is around. We can count on Lawanda to be on time, which brings peace to the client and care team. Lawanda is someone who does the right thing even when it may not be acknowledged. We are grateful to have Lawanda in the SHC family.
Help Others: Malinda W.
Malinda lets compassion lead her actions. Even when the situation is challenging, she takes time to assess and take a gentle path. Malinda has worked with several of our clients whose needs changed during her time with them, and she has proven herself to provide value to her client and the team she works with. She provides dignity in all situations. Malinda has been a great addition to the team she transferred to recently. The client’s family acknowledged her excellent care. We are thankful for Malinda!
Exceed Expectations: Amie G.
Amie is almost always smiling. She is friendly to everyone she meets and especially brings a smile to the clients she cares for. She is a caregiver that brings “Raving Fan” reviews from her clients and their families. She is the kind of person that takes responsibility for her assignments and then goes the extra mile. She is a team player who brings a positive attitude to every situation. We are so happy to have Amie on the SHC team!
New Phone Hours!
To better serve our clients and caregivers, the Scheduling Department has extended their hours. A member of the Scheduling Department is now available seven days a week, at the following hours:
- Monday-Friday 7:00am-10:00pm
- Saturday-Sunday 7:00am-5:00pm
During these hours, a Scheduler will be answering the phone and working to meet your needs. If you call beyond these hours, leave a voicemail and someone will follow up with you the next day.
For Accounting/Payroll, Administrative, Human Resources, and Case Management needs, the hours remain Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
We know that scheduling needs don’t end when the workday or week is through. We hope these extended hours will help us to best assist you.

Highlighted Service: SAGE Dementia Care
Families and individuals often suffer through complicated dementia situations. Nothing touches our hearts more than seeing the impact one-on-one care can provide. We understand the wide range of emotional and practical challenges associated with this debilitating disease. With over 35 years of experience, we’ve seen it all, which is why we established SAGE. Many companies will tell you they care for dementia clients and while that may be true, the care often faulters as the care becomes challenging over time.
We’d be honored if you think of us as a highly trained and skilled extension of your family. We have a 100% focus on every detail that supports your loved one. From basic housekeeping to bathing to medication and overall companionship, SAGE memory care professionals indeed stand above the rest.
SAGE dementia training is excellent, and it shows by the quality of care each client receives. Paired with in-home hands-on training, each SAGE Memory Care Professional completes person-centered activity-based care training. A comprehensive two-day session is focused on completing the Alzheimer’s Association EssentiALZ certification and Teepa Snow Positive Approach to Care instruction.
Each Memory Care Professional is trained to do what they do best—care.

Testimonial
Seniors Home Care came into our lives at the beginning of the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s in my younger sister. While she had the disease for a number of years, it went undiagnosed until a major incident brought it to light. Testing followed and the diagnosis was made in August 2023.
I immediately reached out to the ALZ Association and Seniors Home Care was one of the agencies that offered resources for assistance.
The decision to get help with meds was made immediately due to the number of meds and the overall lack of knowledge and information as to their need and use.
We embraced that service and continued it until the day that my sister moved to residential memory care.
We also enlisted the help several times per week with showering. That proved to be an excellent way to make sure that my sister was taking care of hygiene and was supervised.
We were very pleased with Seniors Home Care and have recommended the service to people in our ALZ support group.
Thank you,
Marian W.
